1 19bWhen they entered Bethlehem the whole town was abuzz over them. The [women of the town] said, “Isn’t this Naomi?!” 20But she said to them,
“Do not call me ‘Kindness of YHWH’ [Naomi]
Call me ‘Bitterness’ [Mara]
For Shaddai has made me very bitter.
21I left full,
YHWH made me return empty.
Why should you call me ‘Kindness of YHWH’ [Naomi]?
YHWH has testified against me,
Shaddai has brought disaster upon me.”
22aSo Naomi returned. Now Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, was under her authority, the one who returned from the territory of Moab.
